IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) - The Cowboys were fascinated on one level with drafting Memphis QB Paxton Lynch. They were fascinated on another level with drafting Michigan State QB Connor Cook.
But just because Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott was Dallas' eventual pick, in the fourth round, doesn't mean he's feeling unwanted.
"It really doesn't mean anything to me [that the Cowboys tried to re-enter the first round of last weekend's NFL Draft for Lynch)," Prescott said in this first weekend of Rookie Minicamp work at Valley Ranch. "I'm sure I wasn't the first one on Mississippi State's recruiting board when I committed to them."
Prescott noted that there were "seniors" ahead of him in college and laughed when I pointed out to him that now he's playing behind a "senior senior" in Tony Romo.
Prescott comfortably concedes that he has much to learn from Romo and that he's a "developmental' prospect who is behind No. 2 QB Kellen Moore and in competition with another young QB in Jameil Showers.
"I'm just going to go out there and prove myself everyday on the field, and prove myself everyday in here," Prescott said. "Just be the player and person that I am."
