When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke could be seen pouring from the two-story building, which formerly housed an adult-oriented business. Firefighters began attempting to contain the fire as Command called for a second- and then third-alarm response.

Investigators said that most of the roof collapsed into the structure, making it difficult to access the inside of the building.
