DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews had to rescue a truck driver Thursday morning after a crash involving two big rigs. It happened along the southbound side of Interstate-35E near the intersection with Wheatland Road.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. But the victim was driving an 18-wheeler when he ran into the back of another 18-wheeler that was carrying pipe. The crash caused extensive damage to the victim's cab, crushing the front of the vehicle and pinning the driver inside.

It took a lot of manpower and heavy equipment to cut the victim out of the big rig cab, but he has since been freed. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, but the extent of his injuries is not known.

Crews now remain at the crash site to clean up debris from the incident. That work has closed several lanes of traffic on the southbound side of the interstate. Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible. Check out the traffic map to find an alternate route.
