Building severely damaged in 3-alarm fire in Dallas

Crews battle 3-alarm fire at Dallas auto repair shop

DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) - Dozens of Dallas firefighters are working to extinguish a three-alarm fire at an auto repair shop on Buckner Blvd.

According to the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, the first units were called to 222 South Buckner Blvd just before 4:30 p.m. after reports of smoke coming from the back of the building.

Firefighters began with an offensive attack, but the flames were spreading so fast that crews were ordered to exit the building and fight the fire defensively.

A second alarm was transmitted around 5. p.m. and a third alarm was issued a short time later. Sixty to 70 firefighters were fighting the fire.

Four aerial ladder pipes were placed around the two-story building to drown it until it was ultimately declared extinguished at 6:22 p.m.

The building had recently been vacated and no one was inside. One firefighter was treated at the scene for a lower leg injury and was not taken to the hospital.

DFD said the damage to the building was severe as the flames quickly spread into the second floor and out the roof shortly after crews arrived. The majority of the roof collapsed into the structure leaving it mostly inaccessible.

The cause of this fire is currently listed as undetermined.
