LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Law enforcement officials in Lewisville have been on an intense manhunt Sunday night and into Monday morning for a driver accused of crashing into another vehicle. The suspect fled from the scene, but his life is now in question.

That is because the man escaped from the scene by jumping into Lewisville Lake.

Deputies from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office were responding to the crash scene on the Interstate-35E bridge over the lake at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night. But witnesses explained that they saw the suspect leap over the edge of the bridge and into the water below.

The witnesses added that they saw bubbles in the water just after the man landed, but then never saw him again. Officials are not sure if the suspect was able to make it away from the scene safely, or if he drowned in the lake.

Officers from Hickory Creek and Highland Village assisted in the search for the suspect, along with a boat from the Lewisville Fire Department. However, there has been no word yet that they found any sign of the man. Authorities have not yet released a description of the missing individual. There has also been no additional information released about the initial car crash.
