Crash Involving Students Leaves At Least 1 Dead In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A morning rush hour crash in Oak Cliff, near the intersection of South Westmoreland Road and Illinois Avenue, has left at least one teenager dead.
Officials with Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) were called to the scene just before 9:00 a.m. and found two vehicles -- one of them rolled over.
Daisy Torres, 16, was ejected from the rolled SUV, died at the scene.
Three other teens in the car with that girl, 1 male and 2 females, were taken to a local hospital. The 16-year-old driver of the SUV was not injured.
CBS 11 News has confirmed several of the teens are students at Kimball High School. Administrators with the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) are sending counselors to the school.
A sixth teen, in another vehicle, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say it was that driver who clipped the SUV with the five teens inside causing the driver to loose control, flip, and crash against an iron pole.
Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what caused the driver of the car to hit the SUV, but they say speed was a factor.
