Man fatally struck by truck on I-30 after attempting to run from police

CBS News Texas

FORT WORTH - A fatal crash caused a portion of I-30 to close ahead of the Friday morning rush hour.

The crash is the result of an attempted burglary, police say.

A man was attempting to enter a closed medical facility in the 1200 block of Oakland Blvd in Fort Worth just after 6 a.m. By the time police made it to the scene, the man had gone to another business where he tried to break in.

The man fled from police on foot when they tried to talk to him, leading to a chase. Police say they drove down an embankment along I-30 in an attempt to keep the man from running into traffic.

The man jumped over a guardrail on I-30 and was fatally struck by a pickup truck. Police say the driver of the truck stopped to help the man until emergency personnel arrived.

There were delays and closures for several hours.

This is the same area where a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car a couple of weeks ago.
