Cowboys Week 7 Injury Report: Injured Starters Nearing Return In Bye Week

By Shawn Lealos

The Dallas Cowboys are on their bye week during Week 7 of the NFL season, and as a result, the team has no official injury report to list. However, there are some interesting developments in Dallas for players who have been out of action and might almost be ready to return. The question is whether or not the Cowboys will bring all of them back to the roles they owned before their injuries.

The Dallas Cowboys 2015 Triplets Nearing a Return to Heath

As long-time Dallas Cowboys fans know, the Triplets were the nickname for the tandem of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin in the ‘90s. It seemed like the Cowboys had new triplets in 2014 with Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant, but they traded out Murray for Darren McFadden in 2015. This season, Romo and McFadden opened the year on the injured list and haven’t played yet, and Dez Bryant fell to injury after just three games.

With the three starters on the sidelines, the Cowboys have opened up to a 5-1 start to the season and at least one of them has already lost his job. Darren McFadden believes he is ready to return, but Ezekiel Elliott is entrenched as the starting running back and McFadden might become trade bait. Tony Romo is almost ready to return, but the great play of Dak Prescott has pushed back Romo’s return by at least three more weeks. As for Dez Bryant, he said he will be back after the bye.

Morris Claiborne Injury Stalls Rejuvenated Season

A big question mark heading into the 2016 NFL season was the status of the Dallas Cowboys cornerbacks. Brandon Carr had a contract that seemed high, but the Cowboys kept him anyway. Orlando Scandrick missed all of 2015 with an injury and still hasn’t made his way back to full strength yet. Morris Claiborne was a huge disappointment since the Cowboys took him with the No. 1 pick in the draft, and he is now in his final season of his rookie contract.

However, instead of just fading away, Claiborne seems rejuvenated and has started out with the best season of his short NFL career. That is now on hold. Claiborne hurt his ankle in practice, but made it to the field for the Week 6 game with the Green Bay Packers anyway. However, he was lost early in the game when he suffered a concussion. His status for the game after the bye is up in the air, as he is in the NFL concussion protocol now.
