Cowboys Trade DT Ben Bass To Patriots For CB
OXNARD (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Cowboys have a sudden need in their secondary and sudden faith in their "waves" along the defensive line and have therefore traded defensive tackle Ben Bass to the Patriots in exchange for cornerback Justin Green.
Green (5'11" 195 lbs) is 23, went undrafted last season, but ran a 4.32 40 at his Illinois pro day. He was largely a practice squad player for the Patriots last year, playing in two games for New England.
He'll get a chance to bolster a secondary that will be without drug-suspended Orlando Scandrick for the first four games of the season.
Bass (6-4 and 288 pounds), a Plano West graduate, was undrafted out of Texas A&M and has been limited in his two years in the NFL, having played in just two games in 2012.
He's been sidelined with a hamstring injury during this training camp but was preparing to participate on some level Tuesday in the Cowboys-Raiders combined workout when he was pulled back due to the trade.
Bass was going to struggle to make the team as youngsters like Davon Coleman and Dartwan Bush have come on.
