OXNARD (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys are moving Ezekiel Elliott to the "Jason Garrett Unofficial Be-Deliberate/Monitor List.''
Of course, there really is no such list, beyond the "unofficial.'' But it exists in the sense that Dallas wants to be careful with Elliott, their first-round running back, due to a hamstring tweak he sustained at the end of Tuesday's training-camp workout.
COO Stephen Jones says Zeke may "miss some time,'' and I believe that time could span Sunday's Blue-White Scrimmage, when Elliiott is likely to join a dozen or so Cowboys who will be bubble-wrapped from exposure to injury.
Call this "precautionary'' and know that the Cowboys have suggested to me that Dez Bryant — despite his full health — will be on the same list for Sunday.
Dallas doesn't have Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar ready to come off PUP yet, so Alfred Morris can be prepared to be the top guy in practices this week. Rookie Darius Jackson will get a chance to shine, too, and fullback Rod Smith has some tailback skills as a fill-in.
Elliott's injury isn't serious. And "Jason Garrett Unofficial Be-Deliberate/Monitor List'' isn't official. But the precautionary measure is real and necessary.
