IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) - We've preached in this space for months that the Cowboys' position regarding the No. 4 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft is and should be 'B.A.A. With A QB Lean."
In other words, Best Available Athlete - but quarterback is so important in this game and to this franchise that a potentially great QB would be "best."
What we know now about the 30 pre-draft visits to Dallas this week (the NFL max allowed) tells us we're onto something. ... For among those 30 candidates are Cal quarterback Jared Goff, Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch and North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz.
The Cowboys have already gotten to know this trio of first-round candidates to some degree and now continue that process with meetings and meals - and they'll do the same with running backs and defensive linemen and as many compelling prospects as add up to 30.
The Cowboys employ Tony Romo, obviously. But if you think that precludes them from spending a premiere pick on a quarterback, you are wrong - and three of the upcoming 30 visits prove it is so.
