Cowboys Break Ground On New Frisco HQ
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Cowboys have officially broken ground on the team's new headquarters in Frisco. The brown dirt that now covers the 91-acre site will soon be turning silver and blue. Team owner Jerry Jones and Frisco Mayor Maher Maso were both in attandance.
The now empty patch of land will not only house a practice facility for the NFL team, it will also act as their global headquarters. In addition to the football complex, the city plans to build 37 office, hotel and residential buildings on the site, turning it into a local hotspot. The Frisco Independent School District also plans to use the practice facility for high school football teams.
Maso and other Frisco city officials want the Cowboys headquarters to become a popular tourist destination. They hope to see die-hard fans stop to check out the new facilities and even live in the same complex as America's Team.
Friday's event was the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new headquarters. Heavy construction equipment already rolled into the area last month, and crews started moving dirt and getting the land ready for development.
The Cowboys expect to move into their new facilities by the fall of 2016.
"Can't wait to see it open," said Frisco City Council member John Keating. "Can't wait to see the Cowboys here. Can't wait to see our school district enjoy it. Can't wait to see the community get involved."
