Cowboys QB Weeden Being Careful With Concussion

OXNARD (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Brandon Weeden, fresh off a concussion in Sunday's preseason loss at San Francisco, isn't asking much.
"I'm 31 years old and I don't want to be 50 and not be able to know my kids' names,'' he told reporters in Oxnard on Tuesday. "To me, that's a lot more important than to try and play one more series in a preseason game. It's not worth it.''
Weeden isn't certain he'll be cleared to play this week against the visiting Vikings in a preseason game that will serve as Dallas' regular-season dress rehearsal. That could represent a relative problem for the Cowboys, who will start Tony Romo and then maybe skip over Weeden to give time to prospects Dustin Vaughan and Jameill Showers.
Do the Cowboys need to determine which of them is worth keeping as a third guy, if either of them are? Not as much as they'd like to convince themselves that Weeden is a viable backup to the Pro Bowler Romo.
But that's not as important as following the NFL's policy on concussions, which urges players to sit out for a seven-day period.
Weeded said he had a headache on Sunday night but is experiencing no dizziness or anything like that now and that that he'll "just take it day-by-day until I'm symptom-free."
Is there a circumstance when you push the envelope?
"Super Bowl? That would be a little different deal,'' Weeden said.
