Cowboys Cut Lucky Whitehead Over Shoplifting Charge

OXNARD (105.3 THE FAN) - Dallas Cowboys receiver Lucky Whitehead has been cut after missing a court date, stemming from a petty theft charge in June.

According to The Fan's Mike Fisher, Whitehead was cut by the club before practice on Monday afternoon. Whitehead's agent later confirmed Fish's report.

Whitehead was arrested by the Prince William County Police in Virginia for shoplifting (petit larceny, under $200) on June 2. Officials say Whitehead stole about $40 worth of items from a convenience store.

After being cut, Whitehead told Fish that he wasn't the person that was arrested in Virginia.

"Yup, the Cowboys just cut me. And from a false arrest! Wow!"

Prior to being cut, Whitehead told Fisher he didn't know "who got arrested in Virginia, but it wasn't me."

According to reports, Whitehead failed to appear in court on July 6 for the theft and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Whitehead showed up to the team's training camp in California over the weekend.

Fisher reports the Dallas Cowboys organization became 'aware' of the shoplifting charge after the media learned of the incident, via TMZ.

When asked during his press conference about Whitehead, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said he has just found out about the incident when he was coming off the practice field.

Garrett was then asked if Whitehead could be released, to which he responded, "absolutely," depending on the information they learn about the situation.

Whitehead was recently in the news when his puppy 'Blitz' was stolen from him by a self-proclaimed rapper from Fort Worth. The dog was eventually returned.
