Cowboys Just Weeks Away From New Frisco HQ Groundbreaking
COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Get out the shovels. CBS 11 News has learned that the Dallas Cowboys are just weeks away from breaking ground on their huge new team headquarters.
CBS 11 got a look at the new blueprints that give us the best look yet at where the team will soon train.
The Cowboys practice facility and headquarters will also include a multi-use event center for the City of Frisco its school district. It's all part of a larger development in Frisco that includes retail businesses, restaurants and a hotel.
The 91 acres where the new attraction will be built doesn't look like much now, but things will change in a few short months when the development groundbreaking occurs.
City council members got a brand new look at the plans for the Dallas Cowboys move to Frisco. Plans show the location of the two practice fields, and the indoor stadium.
Assistant Frisco City Manager Ron Patterson said, "You can now start to see the shapes of the buildings coming in to play."
According to Patterson, the details include two, 100 person locker rooms that can be further divided up for Frisco's high school sports teams. There will also be some 1,500 parking spaces below ground.
"It's a massive process," Patterson said of the project. "You've got a 12,000 seat facility, plus a headquarters facility, plus retail development. You have to make sure it all fits together properly."
City leaders say the groundbreaking could happen by the end of June. Keeping that timeline drilling of the structured piers would then take place in August and footballs in the air by fall of 2016.
Patterson said, "Right now things are moving along very well. It's a complicated project but it's a very good one and things are progressing as we hoped."
The Planning and Zoning Commission will vote on the site plans on May 27.
