FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - Oftentimes, those of us charged with the responsibility to compile "top-10 lists" or "top-100 lists" feel compelled to trick them up or gimmick them up or click-bait them up.

USA Today's ranking of Jerry Jones atop its "100 Most Influential People" does none of that.

One local newspaper responded to the Dallas Cowboys owner's ranking with a sarcastic "What?!" But Jones' quarter-of-century-long contributions to the sport are unmatched, as is his profile and his power. Detractors point out how long it's been since he oversaw a dominant team, conveniently ignoring that he's the co-architect of three Super Bowl champions.

Argue if you wish whether USA Today should've placed this player or that player higher or lower; that's an arbitrary judgment, so many Tony Romo shouldn't be the sixth-ranked player (too high!! too low!!) and maybe ex-Cowboys Greg Hardy and Michael Sam shouldn't be on the list at all (given the fact neither of them are actually in the NFL.) Commissioner Roger Goodell? Jerry Jones (and the other 31 owners) are actually his boss.

No, Jerry's No. 1 and his skins on the wall are too numerous to mention. (And if you are a Jerry hater, me mentioning those skins wouldn't change your mind after all these years.) The real issues in terms of Jones honors are twofold: 1) Can he someday cap off his wonderful football life with one more title? And 2) When will the Pro Football Hall of Fame step on the accelerator on his induction?
