Cowboys Jerry Celebrates Dez On The Fan

IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- We've talked a lot in this space about the Cowboys' "comfort level" while we awaited a new deal with Dez Bryant. Team owner Jerry Jones, in a celebratory mood on Thursday morning on 105.3 The Fan, put into words exactly what is meant by "comfort level."

"No one breathing knows Dez better than me," Jones said on "Shan & RJ." "I'm very proud of him."

Proud enough to make Bryant essentially the second-highest-paid receiver in the NFL with this deadline-beating five-year deal is worth $70 million, including $45 million guaranteed ($13 mil "virtually guaranteed") with a $20 million signing bonus. Proud enough to not flinch at a $14-mil-per-year average that really made sense all along. Proud enough to not be distracted by "Dez Walmart Unicorn Video"-type nonsense. Proud to know that in addition to agent Tom Condon's negotiations, Jay-Z and Roc Nation are instrumental in advising Dez going forward.

Jay-Z was not personally involved with the contract negotiations, but Jones noted the entertainment mogul was involved with the "painting of the picture of off the field decisions."

"That's where Jay-Z is such an example," Jones said. "The main thing is that people listen to him. Dez listens to him. Dez will listen to him. Why? We all should listen to him, he's had tremendous success apart from being a great talent."

Jerry's mood on The Fan was demonstrated by the mispronunciation of "Beyoncé" and a "G-Bag Nation"-style "Oooohhh-weeee!" And he made it clear that like Jay-Z, he views Dez as a great talent.

"He's an athletic freak, in a positive sense," Jerry said. "Dez is going to be a face of the franchise, and of the NFL."
