Cowboys HQ Construction NOT Starting
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials in Frisco have approved final plans for the new Dallas Cowboys headquarters. But, despite a report from the NFL team itself, fans will have to wait a little bit longer for construction on the facilities to begin. The complex will not be ready and opening for at least another two years.
In a blog posted on the team's official website on Wednesday, vice president Stephen Jones said that crews might start construction in Frisco on Thursday. That single sentence fueled some major excitement among Cowboys fans, generating buzz in the social media sphere. Tweets claimed that the groundbreaking had been moved up by almost a month.
But it was all a mistake. Jones simply misspoke. Construction is not actually starting on Thursday.
However, before you get too disappointed, there is still good news to report. Frisco officials have given the construction plans the green light, so work on the team's new headquarters can begin on schedule -- as originally planned -- in a few weeks. The facility is expected to be open in time for the 2016 season.
As the Cowboys set their sights on Frisco, many are wondering what will become of the team's current headquarters in Valley Ranch. According to Jones, there are already plans in place to makeover the family-owned property. Given the family's history with real estate, that space could be used for new apartment buildings.
