DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys have finally made a splash in the free agent pool.

Free-agent defensive lineman Cedric Thornton is joining the Cowboys under the terms of a just-signed four-year deal totaling $18 million, sources told me.

Thornton, 27, is being mis-billed as a "low-sack guy'' by the uninformed. He was a run-stopping end in Philly's 3-4 and he'll move inside for Dallas as a 1-tech defensive tackle who will occupy blockers, eat up space, make plays within that framework … but most of all free up 3-Tech guy Tyrone Crawford to chase sacks.

Speaking of Crawford: The Cowboys have apparently flipped the "Tyrone Trigger'' in a cap trick that allows them $4.4 million of shopping room.
