PLANO (AP) - Actor Bradley Cooper praised veterans during a North Texas showing of his new movie, "American Sniper."
Cooper was on hand Wednesday night in Plano, along with Taya Kyle, the widow of the sniper he portrays.
Cooper, who on Thursday was nominated for an Academy Award for lead actor in a motion picture, says the biggest challenge of the film was trying to get it right.
The movie is based on Chris Kyle's 2012 memoir.
Kyle, who served in Iraq, was an ex-Navy SEAL considered to be the deadliest sniper in U.S. military history. Kyle and a friend were killed in 2013 at a Texas shooting range in gunfire blamed on an ex-Marine, who awaits trial.
"American Sniper," also nominated for an Oscar for best picture, opens nationwide on Friday.
