Construction Worker Injured After Partial Trench Collapse In Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A construction worker was injured Friday afternoon after a partial trench collapsed, trapping him in a ditch.

It happened near the intersection of Stone Canyon and Meadow Roads.

Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jason Evans said the man was 16 feet down in the ditch when part of the walls collapsed onto his legs trapping him up to his waist. Though he was able to free himself from the dirt before first responders arrived, he was injured enough that he could not free himself from the hole.

Members from DFR's Urban Search and Rescue Team were able to access the worker, and package him up, before he was loaded onto a Stokes basket, lifted with a hoist system created by the USAR team, transferred to medics and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
