AUSTIN, Texas (1080 KRLD) - People from across Texas are going to be in Austin today calling on elected officials for toll road reform.

The so-called citizen lobbyists say they are not as concerned with dedicated toll roads, like the Dallas North Tollway - they are upset with the new trend of 'managed lanes' on existing state-run highways - like the North Tarrant Express.

"We feels it's been a big abuse of the taxpayers" says Terri Hall with Texans for Toll-free Highways. Hall has helped organized a press conference highlighting toll road reform bills - filed by representatives and state senators from North Texas.

Transportation authorities in North Texas say that the use of tolled lanes has been necessary because of funding shortfalls. And that basically a new road cannot be built or an existing road cannot be significantly improved without tolls.
