ROANOKE (CBS11) - Richard Perrin died getting Christmas presents from his wife's trunk.

The Roanoke man's brother and law told CBS 11 Wednesday.Perrin's wife's car broke down on Highway 170 Saturday morning with the couple's two young daughters in the back seat. When Perrin arrived to help he was hit by a passing pickup truck.

"Richard was pinned between both cars," said Perrin's brother in law, Jody Lee. "The pickup truck flipped over on its side and Richard was thrown into the median, with his wife and girls right there on the side of the road."

Lee says Perrin's daughters never saw the actual crash because their mother turned them from the road so Perrin could get their Christmas presents from the trunk.

"At that very moment, had them turn around so they wouldn't see the presents that Richard was going to get out of the trunk of the car… and right at that moment was a point of impact," said Lee.

Perrin owned the Texas Actor's Studio in Euless and produced his own movies. But he did not have life insurance. The family set up a GoFundMe account that has already raised more than $46,000 as of Wednesday evening.
