FORT WORTH (AP) - A Fort Worth police officer shot multiple times during a gun battle will be escorted home by his colleagues when he's released from a Fort Worth hospital almost two months after he was wounded.

Police say that Officer Matt Pearce will be released from Texas Rehabilitation Hospital on Tuesday. He was shot on March 15.

Police say Pearce will be sent home to rest before continuing with his rehabilitation in Houston.

Pearce was injured during a gunbattle that left a suspect dead. Officers had been trying to arrest Ed McIver Sr. on aggravated assault charges and for jumping bail when gunfire broke out as he fled with his adult son. McIver Sr. was killed by police. Pearce was wounded.
