NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Kenny Rogers, who earlier this year announced his retirement from touring, will be honored as the CMT Artist of a Lifetime for his extensive music career spanning across multiple genres for decades.

CMT will present the honor to Rogers at the "CMT Artists of the Year" awards show in Nashville, Tennessee on Dec. 2. CMT will also give out a new award, the 2015 CMT Artists of the Year Breakout award, to country singer songwriter Chris Stapleton after he had a surprise sweep at this year's Country Music Association Awards.

Rogers will do a final worldwide tour next year before retiring to spend more time with his family. The Grammy-winning singer has been performing since the 1950s and has sold more than 120 million albums.
