Woman tells police she was kidnapped after arriving in Laredo hours after disappearing

DESOTO — A CLEAR Alert issued for 37-year-old Lacey Lyn Overby was canceled Friday morning after she was found safe in Laredo.

Overby has been reunited with her family after arriving at the international bridge in Laredo, telling authorities that she had been kidnapped.

It began Thursday afternoon at a Tiger Mart in Desoto. Overby was on the phone with her daughter and let her know she was going to buy a nearby homeless man some food.

The daughter told police that she heard a commotion while on the phone with her mother and was no longer able to reach Overby after. It was at that point she called DeSoto police.

Seven hours later, authorities at the international bridge contacted DeSoto police saying they had located Overby.

"Ms. Overby indicated to the authorities there at the bridge that she had been kidnapped. She was originally she was immediately taken," said Lt. Chris Huerta with the DeSoto Police in a press conference Friday.

"You know, they got her away from the vehicle. The officers at the location searched the vehicle for the suspect. However, he was not located....Ms. Overby was driving at the time. It is unknown if a weapon was involved."

Officials say they hope to get a better timeline when they are able to interview Overby.

DeSoto police say they've been back to that Tiger Mart to look through surveillance video, but that whatever interaction that Overby reported may have been out of view of the cameras.

Police have not located any witnesses at this time.

DeSoto Police ask that anyone with any information about the incident contact the department at 972-223-6111.
