JOHNSON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) -- Residents and business owners are cleaning up across North Texas after severe storms brought as many as 12 tornadoes and dumped five inches of rain on some areas.

Near Rio Vista, homeowners who live along a creek say more than five feet of water rushed into their homes.

When daylight arrived on Monday, extensive flooding was observed across Johnson County, damaging roads and homes, and flooding local businesses. FM 916 displayed significant damage, as the road appeared to buckle.

Rio Vista closed all schools on Monday and plans to reopen on Tuesday.

Resident Lea Shackleford waited the storm out but was shocked to find the extensive damage. She did, however, feel lucky to be alive.

"Our fence is completely gone; our trees are completely gone. We don't know if we have any roof damage right now, but we are just thankful we are alive."

The Red Cross is on site assisting families in need. To the surprise of many, there have been no reported injuries.

In Cleburne and Grandview, similar damage was observed as roads were badly damaged.

One Grandview resident believes a tornado ripped through his area, uprooting trees and damaging his home inside and out.

"I just heard a lot of rain, hail, wind and there was a constant wind," said James Finley. "It didn't get quiet til it quit raining."

In the Sand Flat community of Cleburne, a couple says the water flooded to a never before seen six feet on County Road 417. The waters near Mustang Creek were strong enough to push their SUV, camper, and van several yards down the street.

Residents say the flooding is the worst they have ever seen.
