Chrysler Recalls Nearly 350,000 Vehicles To Fix Ignition Switches

DETROIT (WWJ) - Chrysler is recalling 349,442 cars and SUVs from the 2008 model year to fix faulty ignition switches.

The switches, Chrysler said, can get stuck, move out of position and potentially lead to the engine shutting off while the vehicle is motion. The problem can also lead to air bags not functioning.

Vehicles included in the recall are 2008 Dodge Charger sedans, Dodge Magnum station wagons, Chrysler 300 sedans, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

Among the vehicles subject to recall, Chrysler Group is aware of a single minor accident that was possibly related to either condition, according to a news release. The company is unaware of any related injuries.

All affected customers will be notified when they may schedule service, which will be provided at no cost to them, Chrysler said,

In the meantime, Chrysler is urging owners to confirm their ignition keys are set in the "on" position (1 o'clock) when they start their cars. This will assure engine power and intended functionality of all systems, including front air bags. As a supplementary precaution, customers are advised to detach their ignition keys from key rings and other keys.
