Child Shot By 3-Year-Old Brother At Apartment In South Oak Cliff

#UPDATE: Dallas 4-Year-Old Recovering After Being Shot By Younger Sibling

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A 3-year-old child shot and injured his 4-year-old brother in south Oak Cliff early Wednesday morning, police say.

Police responded to the Mandalay Palms apartments on Cliff Creek Crossing Drive at around 1:30 a.m after receiving a call from a woman about her son being shot.

According to police, the boys' father was taking both children to the hospital after the shooting when he was stopped by responding officers. Police called an ambulance for the injured child, who was then taken to Children's Medical Center.

The boy is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery after he was shot in the abdomen.

The mother of the victim was named a suspect, but police could not confirm the second suspect's relation to the children. Both could face charges of injury to a child and making a firearm accessible to a child.

Police are investigating how the 3-year-old was able to access the handgun and shoot his brother.
