DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - The woman accused of kidnapping two children from a Dallas thrift store claims the whole situation was a misunderstanding.

Police arrested Brianah Blount on Wednesday after they found her with two young children that had been reported missing. Investigators believe Blount took the children from the Garland Road Thrift Store while their dad was in the dressing room.

"It doesn't look good. It doesn't look good. But those actions weren't based off of kidnapping. Those actions weren't based off of trying to hurt or trying to take somebody away from anything. I legitimately thought something was wrong and I was trying to help," said Blount, during an interview at Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

Blount said she found the kids alone and could not find their parents. She decided to take them to a nearby apartment complex where she knew some people.

"I felt as if I needed to help these kids and keep them safe until I could get them in the hands of the police," she said.

Investigators said a neighbor eventually spotted the children and alerted the authorities. The kids where then safely returned to their father.

Blount said, "I would tell this father that I do have my own son. And I've been mother and father to my child my whole life. And I would never do anything to hurt anybody."

The 23-year-old said she believes her son "Aiden" is with his biological father in Michigan. A call to Child Protective Services have not been returned regarding the status of Blount's child.
