Chicken Breast Strips Recalled Over Listeria Concerns
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Thursday that Foster Farms is recalling nearly 40,000 pounds of frozen pre-cooked chicken products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogene.
The frozen Chicken Breast Grilled Strips were produced on August 5, 2014, and then shipped to warehouses in Texas, California, Utah, and Washington.
The recall is only for 3.5-lb. plastic resealable bags of frozen "Chicken Breast Grilled Strips." The products in question will have the establishment number "P-33901" and a Best by Date of 08-05-15.
The possible contamination was discovered during a routine plant inspection. So far no reports of illnesses associated with the products have been received.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon and potentially fatal disease. Symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
Consumers are being urged to check and see if they have any of the product frozen in their freezer.
