CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) – A police chase of a stolen car through a Carrollton neighborhood ended with a violent crash, sending a man to the hospital with serious injuries.

The victim, identified as Jorge Cabrera, was on his way to meet his wife for dinner when the crash happened.

When Sara Cabrera saw the police blocking the road ahead, her heart dropped.

"I thought the worst," she said.

Her husband confirmed her fear when he called to tell her he was the one being loaded into a CareFlite helicopter.

Carrollton Police say the drama began when they pulled over a silver car around 6:30 Wednesday evening.

"We figured out the car was stolen. The suspect fled. It led to a high speed chase, not a very long one but a very fast one, through this residential area," said Jolene Devito with the Carrollton Police Department.

Police say the suspect ran a stop sign and T-boned Jorge Cabrera's black SUV. The impact trapped Cabrera inside. Firefighters had to cut through the roof of the SUV to reach him.

"I think God is great and that he's taking care of him for me," his wife said.

The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Brandon Dale Robinson. He was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, but is current condition is not known.
