Carjacking Victim Speaks

DALLAS(CBSDFW.COM) - A wild chase through five North Texas cities ended in spectacular fashion Friday. It started with a 13-year-old boy allegedly carjacking a woman.
The 13-year-old was apparently the driver during the chase, but police say he had two accomplices. And the woman whose car was stolen at gunpoint says her life is ruined.
"It was pretty traumatic. I'm still kind of a little in shock," says the victim who asked not to be identified. She says she was getting some soap at a 24-hour drug store in Pleasant Grove when three "kids," as she called them, asked for change.
"I reached over to get it and one of them came and put a gun in my chest and said, 'Give me all your money, give me what you have,'" she said.
She found out later she was robbed with what is likely a pellet gun.
"At that time you don't think about if it's a toy or if it's a real gun, you just give them what they want," said the victim.
But her cellphone was still in the car. Dallas police were able to ping it and found it in Garland. Police there chased the car through four northern suburbs and into Dallas. It was Garland Police who brought the chase to an end on the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge with a "pit maneuver."
"Conditions were right. The speeds had slowed enough, there was no traffic in the area," said Garland police spokesperson, Officer Joe Harn. "And that's where they asked permission to do the "pit maneuver."
But the carjacking victim believes her car was totaled. She has insurance, but there's a $500 deductible.
"I lost my job a few years ago and now I got my car, I got my job, and now it's like I have to start all over. I don't know what to do," the carjacking victim said.
