Captured Sex Offender Suspected In Denton Robbery Attempt

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- A registered sex offender who escaped and was captured in Oklahoma Friday morning is now suspected in an attempted robbery in Denton.

Charles Sprague escaped from a Fort Worth halfway house earlier this week and was taken into custody at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville.

On Thursday, Denton police received a call about a person with a gun in the 500 block of Fulton Drive.

A woman says the suspect got out of an SUV and approached her, saying he had a gun. The suspect then grabbed the victim and tried to force her into his vehicle. The victim was able to fight the man off with pepper spray and escape.

Police say the description provided to officers closely matches that of Sprague.

Denton detectives are currently in Oklahoma working with other agencies in this investigation.

Sprague is also suspected in a kidnapping that took place in North Richland Hills on Wednesday afternoon.

Described as a "violent sexual predator" by authorities, Sprague escaped from the Fort Worth facility, located in the 600 block of North Henderson Street, and cut off an electronic tracking device to evade authorities.
