Bush Book Signing Sparks Controversy In Illinois

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Officials of a Chicago suburb are questioning who should pay the cost of the security provided for a book signing this week by former President George W. Bush.
Naperville City Council members Doug Krause says he's heard from downtown businesses that lost customers after a street was closed for hours around Bush's Monday visit to Anderson's Bookshop. The 43rd president was promoting the biography he wrote about his father, former President George H. W. Bush.
Police Chief Robert Marshall hasn't specified the cost of Bush's visit. However, Krause says perhaps the bookstore should be responsible for additional costs.
Bookstore owner Becky Anderson says she paid for three Naperville police officers to be present during the event. She says road and parking lot closures were at the discretion of the Secret Service.
