FARMERS BRANCH (CBSDFW.COM) - Nine holes away from his second Masters championship, Jordan Spieth's game took a turn for the worse, and he was never able to fully recover.

It may not have been Jordan Spieth's day, but win or lose, the people who watched him get his start at Brookhaven Country Club are still proud of their favorite son.

"It's a tough game, man.  It can be a brutal game.  A couple of bad swings, it happens.  It was tough to watch.  It really was," Brookhaven member Rob Wands said.

Spieth may not have been able to win back-to-back Masters, but many here will always see him as the rising star they watched grow up.

"He was perfect.  It was clear that he was an exceptional golfer.  I would have killed for his game, and I was a whole lot older than ten," Brookhaven member Carol Stephenson said.

Dozens shared tense moments as Spieth fought his way through tough rounds.  Meanwhile a new generation of golfers dreamed of following in his footsteps.

"We would have loved to see him win, but we're still proud of him, and I have a feeling we're going to see him... he'll have some more green jackets in his closet before it's all over, I have a feeling," Wands said.
