DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A small fire at the Mercantile Commerce Building in Downtown Dallas has Commerce Street that shut down between Ervay and  South St Paul Friday morning is out.

Dallas Fire-Rescue says the fire reportedly started in an abandoned elevator shaft.

First arriving fire crews reported smoke showing from outside the building.

The call came in shortly after 10:20 a.m.

The entire building was under construction, and the only people inside were a number of construction workers.

Everyone got out of the building safely and no injuries have been reported according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.

Investigators determined the fire was accidental and began after sparks, from some "hot-work" being done on the 20th floor of the building, got into the elevator shaft, and ignited some items below.

The fire was contained to the shaft, but developed quite a bit of smoke; making the situation look a lot worse than it actually was, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
