UPDATE 9/3/15, 3:19pm - DPD says woman killed in Uptown Dallas parking garage is 35-year-old Kendra Hatcher.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Dallas are searching for a killer after a woman's body was found in a parking garage in the uptown area on Wednesday night. Authorities were informed about a shooting at about 7:45 p.m. and responded to the 1700 block of Cedar Springs Road.

That is where officers located the body of the 35-year-old female victim, between the first and second levels of the garage. Her name has not yet been released. It is not clear if she lived at the Gables Park 17 high-rise apartment building where the garage is located, or was perhaps visiting.

"There's going to be a lot of people being a little bit more aware of their surroundings," said resident Shannon Self. "Eyes are open a little bit more. Here, you feel very safe. I still do. But some people don't."

The parking garage is gated, and residents said that a key card is required in order to get inside. Someone could, theoretically, follow a resident through the gate without a key card. However, residents admitted that doing so would be a challenge.

"People start wondering," added Self, "how does this happen? Are we safe? People are talking about, should we move?"

This is a popular Dallas neighborhood, especially for young professionals. But, as one resident said, it is an unfortunate thing that could happen anywhere. "It really doesn't matter where it happens," said resident Robert Phillips. "It's always scary. But you sometimes think, in certain areas, that you're immune to certain things. Proof is, you're not. Pretty devastating."

Detectives have left the scene, but the case remains under investigation on Thursday. Police are still not sure what the motive could have been for this act of violence. There has been no description released of a possible suspect.
