DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Blue Bell Creameries is shutting down a manufacturing plant in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma over a listeria scare last month.

In a statement on the Blue Bell company website they say they will inspect the Oklahoma facility for any possible problems that may have led to the contamination of some of their ice cream products in the past few weeks.

Five patients ate ice cream that contained listeria at a hospital in Kansas between January 2014 and January 2015. Three of them died.

"We are taking this step out of an abundance of caution to ensure that we are doing everything possible to provide our consumers with safe products and preserve the trust we have built with them and their families for more than a century," Blue Bell officials said in a statement on the company website.

The company says it is currently working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and once the investigation is complete, they'll make improvements and reopen the plant.
