Black Friday Shoppers Start Earlier Than Ever

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Black Friday sales are creeping earlier into Thanksgiving Day.

Stores like Best Buy, Toys R Us, Target, Walmart, JC Penney, Sears, Macys and Staples opened at 5 or 6 p.m. this year.

While many retailers refuse to open on the holiday normally reserved for family time, the number of people participating in shopping on Thursday is only growing.

Lines formed outside the Best Buy store in Frisco on Wednesday evening.

When the doors opened at 5 p.m., 130 employees greeted shoppers with cheers and hi-fives.

General Manager Ken Macomber says some 5,000 people could come through before the store closes at 1 a.m. Friday and reopens later that morning with more door buster deals.

"Having one year under our belt opening on Thanksgiving, now we know the general traffic pattern and the times. The promos this year are very, very good," said Macomber.

Harley McLiechey got in her turkey dinner at home, before heading to Walmart and Toys R Us to shop for her son, cousins and nephew. She doesn't plan on stopping until morning.

"We're about to go to the Allen outlets. We'll probably be shopping until 2 to 3 a.m.," said McLiechey.

Stacie and Derek Spencer were first in line at Best Buy, having camped out over night.

While not a fan of spending the day away from home, Stacie says, the deals are worth it.

"I definitely wish it was Friday instead of Thursday," said Stacie.

This holiday shopping season is expected to be bigger than the last, in part because the economy is improving and gas prices are low.
