LANCASTER (CBSDFW.COM) - The driver of a big rig walked away from a crash early Tuesday that left his vehicle in flames. It happened just before 3:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate-35E in Lancaster, at the intersection with Parkerville Road.

According to investigators, the driver said that he heard an explosion just before he lost control of this truck. That semi then hit a barricade and veered into a different lane, crashing into another big rig. Just a few seconds later, the driver's truck burst into flames.

The driver was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay. The driver of the other big rig was not injured. Officials have not released the names of these individuals.

The truck that was on fire had been hauling hundreds of tires. Those were spilled all over the highway during the crash and created a huge mess for crews to clean up. Hazardous materials workers were also at the scene to deal with a diesel fuel spill on the road.

The crash shut down the northbound lanes of the interstate early Tuesday morning, leaving just the frontage road open for travelers. The interstate remained closed going into Tuesday afternoon. Check the traffic map for the latest updates and lane closures.
