Big Changes Coming To Rangers Ballpark In Arlington
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Visitors to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington should expect some physical changes at the ballpark. For starters, The Diamond Club will be remodeled and renamed the Jack Daniels No. 7 Club. But the biggest changes will be ticket prices. The basic ticket price will go down on 94 percent of the seats. But it depends on which game fans are attending. Ticket prices will change depending on the demand for tickets to each game.
"I think the variable pricing gives us flexibility for the prices to go down, actually, for games that have less demand," said Vice President of Ballpark Operations Rob Matwick. "And for big series when we get to that point in the season, and when the games mean a lot more or a popular opponent is in, that has the potential to drive the price up."
The Rangers will use a company called Qcue to forecast demand for games. One or two weeks before a series start they'll determine if prices of tickets should stay at face value or not. If its a big pitching match up or division rival, prices go up. If it's a cold school night in April, prices go down.
Think of it like buying airline tickets.
"We've all gone through that where you go online to look for an airfare and its one price and you go back a week later and its jumped up or its gone back for that particular flight based or the number of seats available," Matwick said. "So, its the same kind of thing.
"The worst thing is to have the seats sit empty. So if lowering the prices helps drive people to the game that's a benefit to us also."
At their cheapest price under the new plan, tickets will cost as little as season tickets - which have always been cheaper than gate prices.
