Best Winter Soups In DFW

There's nothing like a comforting bowl of soup to warm your soul and take the bite out of DFW's chilly weather. So, in honor of National Soup Month, which runs through January, we've rounded up five places serving the best warming bowls of potage in the metroplex.

The Second Floor By Scott Gottlich

While you're busy scouring the shops at the Galleria, you'll want to take a breather at this sleek, casual bistro tucked away in the Westin Hotel. Here, executive chef Andrea Maricich turns out a sensational menu, featuring everything from deviled eggs with bleu cheese and rustic pizzas with house-cured sausage to braised short ribs with parmesan grits and grilled salmon BLTs. Maricich's winter warmers include a delicious Greek-inspired chicken and mushroom soup with roasted chicken and an earthy blend of veggies in a creamy lemon-herb broth. There's also a velvety rich tomato soup that's kicked up with roasted garlic and basil. It's served with a tiny grilled cheese sandwich, which when dipped in the heavenly soup creates a seriously blissful bite.

Whether you're in a cozy booth or cuddled up in front of one of the roaring fireplaces, you can't find a better place to take the chill off than at this Henderson avenue gem. Here, chef Graham Dodds serves up an incredible menu of farm-to-table fare where seasonal hits shine in the form of white bean bruschetta with lardo and apple butter and goat neck pie with celery root purée. For winter, Dodds is heating up the menu with an incredibly decadent butternut soup. The soup, poured tableside, features puréed Comeback Creek Farms butternut squash topped off with an aromatic mix of mirepoix (onions, carrots and celery), glazed chestnuts and fresh cream.Related: Best Chili Dishes In DFW

Righteous Foods

Lanny Lancarte may have closed his much beloved Alta Cocina, but that shouldn't stop you from checking out his new cafe, Righteous Foods, located in the same spot. With a focus on healthy eating, the menu here brings forth an inspiring lineup of dishes ranging from grilled eggplant bocaditos with goat cheese to organic beef burgers with chlorophyll aioli. Currently on tap for the winter are two soul-satisfying soup options, including a silky smooth, roasted butternut and chile pasilla soup (sans cream and butter) served with charred cauliflower, queso fresco and avocado. Also, you'll find a hearty vegan mung bean and organic sweet potato soup, filled with exotic flavors and enough wholesome goodness to keep you fueled up on a cold winter's day.

Ramen Hakata
3720 Belt Line Road
Addison, TX 75001
(972) 247-2401
www.ramenhakata.com

Locals are getting blown away at this new eatery that offers around a dozen ways to get a ramen fix on. Here, you'll find the supremely popular tonkotsu-style ramen made with a potent broth of pork bones and fat that's gone through a cooking process spanning hours over high heat. The result is a flavorful gelatinous broth that gets amped up with fresh noodles, garlic oil and a seemingly endless array of toppings — ranging from melt-in-your-mouth chashu (pork belly) and seafood to veggies and soft-boiled eggs.

Sea Breeze Fish Market & Grill
4017 Preston Road, Suite 530
Plano, TX 75093
(972) 473-2722
www.seabreezefish.com

The metroplex may not be near any oceans, but that hasn't stopped this market/cafe from serving, as well as selling, some of the freshest seaworthy fare in the area. Regulars flock here for the lobster rolls — said to be the best found outside of New England. There's also a seasonal bounty of scallops, halibut, salmon and more cooked up in a variety of ways. When it comes to soup, the mouthwatering options range from a spicy seafood gumbo and a creamy New England clam chowder to a ridiculously lavish lobster bisque. Or if you want to make a meal of it, go for the cioppino, featuring generous portions of clams, mussels, shrimp and calamari swimming in a flavor-packed tomato broth.  Related: Best Pumpkin Dishes In DFW
