Best Tequila Drinks In DFW

By Shawn S. Lealos

One of the best places to live if a person loves Mexican cuisine and drinks is the Dallas and Fort Worth areas. Once a person gets past all the chain and franchise restaurants and pubs, there are some great stops with locally owned businesses offering the best the country has to offer in South of the Border treats. This includes various tequila drinks and the DFW area has some unique and one-of-a-kind offerings for anyone who likes the spicy beverages. Here is a look at the best tequila drinks in the DFW area.

Mattito's (Rumba Rita)
7778 Forest Lane
Dallas, TX 75230

Mattito's offers a unique tequila drink called the Rumba Rita. This blue drink is the house drink for Mattito's and is even a great happy hour offering, at only $5 during those special sale hours. However, be warned because this is a very strong alcoholic beverage. It is so strong, that Mattito's limits diners to just two of the Rumba Ritas per visit. The drink contains Sauza Gold tequila, Blue Curacao and citrus. Also, be warned, the Rumba Rita turns your tongue blue.

Meso Maya (Avocado Margarita)

It sounds strange, but the Meso Maya Avacado Margarita is something that all tequila lovers should try at least once in their lives. This is an interesting concoction with the smooth taste of the avocado leveling out the bite of the tequila. With a rim surrounded by spicy salt (Tajin Clasico), this is a margarita that should win over most fans of the drink. The restaurant muddles the avocado by hand and then makes each drink individually, one of the best hand-crafted spirits in the DFW area.

Mi Cocina (Mambo Taxi)
3699 McKinney Ave.
Dallas, TX 75204
(469) 533-5663

Mi Cocina offers one of the best Tex-Mex experiences in the DFW area. However, outside of their great food menu items, Mi Cocina is also known for their tequila drinks. There are many different specialty drinks here to choose from including a Cucumber Margarita, Jalapeno-Agave Margarita and a 150-calorie Skinny Margarita. However, if you are looking for something really special, their specialty is the Mambo Taxi. This is a frozen margarita that features sangria and tequila and remains so popular that their sister restaurant Taco Diner serves the same drink.

Originally known as Mariano's, named after its founder Mariano Martinez, the La Hacienda Ranch remains a Dallas institution that forever holds a place in history. See, in 1971, Martinez opened the restaurant with $500 in cash and a loan and built it into a huge success thanks to a special invention that the restauranteur created. Mariano Martinez invented the first ever frozen margarita machine -- the same machine that thousands of restaurants and pubs use to this day. His original machine is a part of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and anyone who loves frozen margaritas owes it to themselves to get one where it all began.

Original Mexican Eats Cafe (Jalapeno Margarita)
4713 Camp Bowie Boulevard
Fort Worth, TX 76107

Saying that you drank somewhere that a former U.S. President drank is not unusual in Texas, especially with the Bush family proudly calling this their home for decades. However, saying you had a margarita at the same restaurant that former President Franklin D. Roosevelt frequented on a regular basis is another story. The Original Mexican Eats Cafe opened its doors in Fort Worth way back in 1926 and still remain successful almost 100 years later. The cafe has discounts during sporting events and even sells their margaritas in pitchers. Their specialty is the Jalapeno Margarita served with fresh diced peppers for people who don't mind the heat.
