There's nothing more relaxing than spending the day basking in the sun, and while DFW may not be near the seaside, the area still offers plenty of ideal spots for catching a few rays. From posh pools to sandy beaches, these places bring new meaning to fun in the sun.

Taking in the sun at this swanky aqua playground will have you wanting to be seen in your finest itsy bitsy bikini for the occasion. But don't worry if you want to slip into something less revealing, you can still take in the awesome resort-like atmosphere while you enjoy poolside cocktails and a killer line-up of tasty tidbits from the menu. Another reason to hang out by this posh pool? There's live music, DJs and plenty of non-stop events to keep the party going all weekend long.

There's probably no cooler spot to catch some rays than at this 1950s-era spring-fed watering hole tucked inside of a tree-filled 30-acre park. Sandy beaches, high dives and a 25-foot trapeze that swings over the water adds to the overall awesome factor of the place. There's also tennis and volleyball courts, along with concession stands and barbecue grills, making it a great place for a family's day out. The lake is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily from Mother's Day through Labor Day. Admission is $12 per person for ages seven and over or $5 for kids age one to six.

This little slice of the Trinity River has recently become one of Fort Worth's hottest destinations for year-round live music, festivals and events. Along with Rockin' the River free summer concerts every Thursday evening and Sunday Funday shindigs every Sunday afternoon, there's plenty of other reasons why you'll want to soak up the sun in this sandy spot of paradise. For starters, you can work on a tan while you kayak, tube or paddleboard—it's all available to rent right there on site. There's also an access to the Trinity Trails if you decide to take a stroll. And if you're in the mood for a movie after the sun goes down, just walk over to the Coyote Urban Drive-In and have a seat in the outdoor pavilion where you can cool off with fans and misters. Best of all, you can lounge around until your heart's content free of charge.

In order to enjoy hanging out in DFW's blazing heat, you need to have at least two things: a nice cold alcoholic beverage and a place to take a refreshing dip. Sneaky Pete's has both and more. Resting on the banks of Lake Lewisville, this popular eatery offers everything for the sun worshiper—from an outdoor bar and lawn area to sand volleyball courts and a huge pool deck with plenty of seating. Happy hours, food specials and live music completes the scene for a fun day in the sun, as well as a spectacular night on the lake.

Grapevine Lake has no shortage of places to spread out along its 146-mile shoreline, but there's not many places with the views and amenities that Rockledge Park provides. Set atop a small bluff overlooking the water, the park features covered picnic tables, restrooms, a playground, a pebbly beach and the best swimming area on the lake. There's also access in the back of the park to the North Shore Trail that runs along for 9.5 miles up to Twin Coves Park. Entrance to the park is $5 per vehicle during the week or $10 on weekends and holidays. If you come on a Friday during the summer, be sure to stick around after the sun goes down, it's a perfect spot to view the weekly fireworks show.
