Best Library Programs For Kids In DFW

Learning to read is one of the greatest things that a child can accomplish. That fact makes library programs directed toward reading very important. The DFW area has a huge number of libraries all throughout Dallas, Fort Worth and the surrounding communities. With so many libraries, there is also a great deal of programs for kids, including story times, programs and contests. Here is a look at the best kids programs at libraries around the DFW area.

dallaslibrary2.orgThe Bachman Lake branch of the Dallas Library System has a number of great events both for kids and families throughout the week. On Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m. CST, the library offers a Family Fun Craft Time, where kids can bring their parents to the library for story time and a chance to make some great crafts. On Monday mornings at 11 a.m., the library also offers kids a chance to fall in love with books early with a Baby Story Time, where librarians go through stories with rhymes, songs and stories. Finally, on Thursday mornings at 11 a.m., kids can continue their love of books with a Toddler Story Time for those kids aged 18 months up to three years.

dallaslibrary2.orgThe Audelia Road Branch Library also offers a lot of activities for kids, including some great events in their auditorium. The library offers movies in the auditorium for kids throughout the year. They also have great options for school-aged kids every Tuesday with a program called Awesome After School Activities. This is for kids from first through sixth grade and includes Legos, games and activities. On Thursday, there are also educational programs called STEAM, which brings in science, technology, engineering, arts and math to add learning to the fun.

Located in the North Park Center Mall, the Bookmarks Library was developed for kids 12 and under where they can find plenty of books, DVDs, music and more just for their age groups. There are also games, puzzles and reading areas, as well as computers. The library also offers literary programs and story times for kids. The hours of operations are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except for Tuesday when they are closed. They are also open on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

fortworthtexas.gov/libraryAll Fort Worth libraries offer what they call the Worth Reading program. This is a four-month program that rotates throughout the year. To participate, just head to any Fort Worth library and pick up an Activity Card. Whenever the kids come in for an activity, they get their card stamped. Finishing five activities earns the kids free admission to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. There is also a grand prize drawing for unique prizes. The activities including reading times and technology activities.

www.cityofdenton.comThe Denton Public Library has a ton of fun activities for kids in the DFW area. Mother Goose Time is designed for babies to learn the love of stories through songs and activities. Toddler Time continues to integrate the love of books into children with stories, songs, activities and social interaction for kids aged one to three. There is also a play time for toddlers at the library to help the little ones run off their energy along with a weekly story time for kids up to the age of five. The Denton Public Library also has a Books & More program to award kids who read books throughout the year.
