Best LGBT Pride Events In DFW

Dallas has one of the largest gay populations in the United States, and the DFW community has developed a large number of events for the LGBT community to celebrate their individuality. With parades, festivals and more, the DFW gay commuity has developed a great spirit of unity in an area of the country not always known for its tolerance. The DFW area is also home to the LGBT mega-church, The Cathedral of Hope. With so many great things happening in the DFW area for the LGBT community, here are five events that remain highlights every year for Dallas residents.
Voice Of Pride 2015

Date: June 1, 2015 through July 19, 2015 at 9 p.m. each night, finals Aug. 9, 2015 at 7 p.m.

The Voice of Pride 2015 is an annual competition taking place during June Pride Month. The event consists of 15 preliminary competitions around the community in this annual singing contest. The events themselves will take place at various locations around the DFW area with the finals taking place at The Rose Room on Aug. 9. There will be three elimination rounds with the final 10 contestants battling for the big prize at the end on final night. The event has been ongoing since 2006, and Coors Lite is a sponsor of the 2015 competition.

The Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade is celebrating its 32nd anniversary in 2015, with the first ever Dallas Pride parade taking place in 1972 with just 250 and 300 people showing up to show their pride. There were 3,000 people marching by the end. Alan Ross was the man who put the parade on each year, and after he passed in 1995, the Dallas Tavern Guild named the parade after him. In 2014, thousands of people lined the streets to enjoy the parade, as members of the DFW LGBT community marched to show unity and celebrate life. All entrants have to fill out an application to march, which is found on the Dallas Pride website.

2015 will see the 18th annual Black Gay Pride Weekend, which is the DFW areas biggest Black Gay Pride Event. The weekend will see a lot of events taking place in Dallas, including the Him 4 Him event and the Her 4 Her events. This is one area where the event wants to differentiate, as they are not just wanting to shine a light on a group that they deem remains invisible throughout the year, while also teaming with woman's organizations to make sure that all members of the LGBT community are equally represented throughout the weekend. The events start off on Thursday, Oct. 1, with the Official Kickoff Party and Ball.

For the 32nd year in a row, the Dallas Tavern Guild presents the Festival in the Park as part of the Dallas Pride events. There will be entertainment, vendors, and food, It is a perfect place for people to converge following the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade, which ends at the park. While the actual entertainment for the festival has not been named, make sure to check their website closer to the event for a full schedule of events.

This year is the 15th anniversary of the Dallas Purple Party, which is an event that raises money to help individuals in the DFW area living affected by HIV and AIDS. So far, the Purple Foundation has raised over $600,000 to help these people and works to try to make their lives easier. While there are events throughout the year, the Dallas Purple Party enlists amazing musical talent to provide a sound and light show that has to be seen to be believed. This year's event will feature DJ Alyson Calagna from Miami and DJ Shane Stiel from San Diego. The party is part of the overall Dallas Purple Party weekend, with tickets ranging from $5 up to $159, depending on what events you plan to attend.
