Best Holiday Light Shows In DFW

Looking at Christmas lights is a great tradition for the holidays. Many people enjoy decorating, and for the most part, they want you to see their handiwork. There are also civic and commercial displays that are worthwhile. Here are five of the best in the Dallas area.

There are special activities and programs on weekends, but you can see the lights at any time. There are 11 miles of lighting and eight miles of cords used to make this light show happen. On Dec. 19, Santa Claus will arrive via parachute. There is a four-lane inner tube slide and skating returns for another year. Check their calendar for special events, or you may stop by and see the spectacle any evening.

brazoscarriage.comThe Highland Park is a historic Dallas community that has a history of going all out for Christmas decorations. There are 20 blocks of houses decked out in full holiday regalia. Take a leisurely drive, or even walk, through the streets to see house after house with great lights and decorations. Carriage rides are also available. The Highland Park Village shopping area is also a great sight for lights. Hot chocolate and cookies are available.

The season kicked off on Nov. 30, 7 p.m., with a special service featuring the president of the university reading the Christmas story. Even though that special event has passed, you may still enjoy the lights through the holiday season. Dallas Hall is lit with thousands of lights, and you may enjoy a leisurely drive or walk around the campus to view all the spectacular lights through the holiday season.

prairielights.orgThis is one of the most spectacular light shows in the Dallas area. There is a cost involved, but by most accounts, it is well worth it with millions of lights. There is a two-mile long path filled with displays of lights of all shapes and sizes. Halfway through there is a holiday village where you may shop, have a snack and enjoy the many activities. There is also an indoor laser and light show you may walk, drive or take a bus or limo through.

www.arlington-tx.govInterlochen is a community on the north side of Arlington where house after house is decorated for the Christmas season. More than 200 homes are decorated in this community. The season begins Dec. 17 and goes through the end of the year, starting at about 7 p.m. each night. There is no cost, but the venue is very popular and can get crowded. Follow the directions of traffic control officials. You may drive or walk through the neighborhood. Visit during the week to avoid weekend crowds.
