Best 2015 Holiday-Themed Stage Productions In DFW

There is something about the holiday season that makes a lot of people want to see a live production. Whether you want a secular Christmas show or one with your religion's traditions, a good show is a great way to kick off the season and get in the mood for the holidays. With that in mind, we have chosen five of the best holiday-themed stage productions planned for this year in the Dallas Fort Worth area. There's plenty of theater and musicals available.

Cold Hearted Christmas
Dallas Star Dinner Theater
816 South Main St.
Grapevine, TX 76051
(817) 310-5588
www.texasstardinnertheater.com

Date: Nov. 20 - Dec. 27.  Dinner is served at 7:30, and the show starts at 8 p.m.

What better way could there be to get in the Christmas spirit than with a melodrama that includes dinner? E.B. Neazer is about to steal Christmas, and it is up to Marshal Jim Courtright and Miss Sarah Ann Dippity, the local madame, to prevent this from happening. Neazer is closing the whole town down, and will Miss Dippity be next? And what will become of Sister Mary Agnostic and her poor sweet orphans? Will their Christmas be stolen as well? This show is one of the wackiest wild west Christmas stories you will ever see.

A Christmas Carol
Wyly Theatre
2400 Flora St.
Dallas, Texas, 75201
(214) 880-0202
www.dallastheatercenter.org

Date: Nov. 25 - Dec. 26.; Tuesday through Sunday at 8 p.m.; Matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

This is the classic theatre adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic Christmas story. This is a Dallas tradition that kicks off the Christmas season for many. The show often sells out, so it is good to get tickets early. This year there will be a 90-minute long performance with no intermission. Scrooge returns with his ghosts and all the people involved in this acclaimed classic production.

The Nutty Nutcracker
Bass Performance Hall
525 Commerce St.
Fort Worth, Tx 76102
(817) 763-0207
www.texasballettheater.org

Date: Dec. 18 at 8 p.m.

The group that puts on the classic ballet, Nutcracker, could not resist creating their own version that explores various tales and music. Characters are borrowed from the Wizard of Oz, with Dorothy and Toto making an appearance. The Queen of England will be there, along with her family. There are also Star Wars characters. Wait for Princess Leah to find a brush to get Chewbacca's hair off her jacket. The laughs keep coming, and the music is great.  These are the same musicians, actors and dancers that will be performing the more serious version Dec. 11-27.

This classic Christmas song will take a life of its own as it leaps from the written music to the live stage. The story is about Rudolph, of course, the most famous reindeer of all, and he will be joined by Hermey the Elf, Yukon Cornelius and others. Songs will include the title song, as well as Jingle Jingle Jingle and Holly Jolly Christmas. This is a local production and is suitable for all ages.

Frosty The Snowman
Casa Manana
3101 W. Lancaster Ave.
Fort Worth, Texas 76107
(817) 332-2272
www.casamanana.org

Date: Nov. 27-Dec.23 at various times between noon and 7 p.m., depending on the day.

Here is another classic Christmas song made into a theater version. This is a children's theater, so you will see lots of young people singing, dancing, acting and generally having a great time. Just because they are young does not mean they are not good actors, by any means. These are the talented stars of tomorrow.  You may know the song, but once you have seen this production, you will know the whole story.
