Bernie Sanders Rallies Texas Delegates At DNC Breakfast

PHILADELPHIA (CBSDFW.COM) - It's day three of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. It was just last night when Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders declared Hillary Clinton the winner of the delegate count and this morning he was busy again -- this time trying to heal deep party divisions.
Sanders addressed hundreds of Texas delegation members at a Democratic breakfast. There were big applauds for the Senator as he entered the hotel ballroom.
Once at the podium Sanders joked with delegates saying there were more people in the room than in his home state.
Sanders got right down to business discussing the work that needs to be accomplished by Democrats. He advocated for what he calls 'Medicare for All' -- a single-payer national health care program and also called for public colleges to offer free tuition.
The Senator said it was the superdelegates who gave Clinton the big advantage over him. Superdelegates are either major elected officials, notable members of the party, or members of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). But Sanders also said the number of superdelegates would be reduce by 60-percent in four years by the Democratic Party.
Saying that he was the worst candidate in modern history, Sanders also criticized Republican nominee Donald Trump and told his delegates what they need to do come November. "It goes without saying that in the next three months, we have got to defeat Donald Trump and elect Hillary Clinton."
While Trump is a billionaire, Sanders said, "The cornerstone of his campaign is not economics. The cornerstone of his campaign is bigotry."
Sanders told the delegates that he is transitioning his campaign and wants more Democrats to run for office. "The political revolution was not just about winning a campaign," he said. "It was about transforming this country. That struggles continues, and I look forward to working with you in the future."
Tonight, President Obama and Vice President Biden are among the headline speakers at the convention.
